Do you drive a light commercial vehicle, van, special purpose vehicle or motorhome under demanding conditions, such as rough terrain? Or does it involve heavy loading, a raised centre of gravity or extra ground clearance? Then you know how important stability and comfort are. In most cases, an upgrade to a suspension system from MAD is sufficient. But in extreme cases, the original shock absorber may not sufficiently control the suspension. In those situations, we recommend installing KONI Special ACTIVE shock absorbers.
KONI Special ACTIVE shock absorbers use advanced FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) valve technology, a pioneering system that automatically adjusts to driving conditions. Combined with an upgraded suspension system, this provides the perfect balance between ride comfort and road holding, without the need to manually change settings. These shock absorbers are part of the MAD Special Duty kits, specially composed to deliver optimum performance in those extreme situations.

The Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) valve technology in KONI Special ACTIVE shock absorbers allows the dampers to adapt to driving conditions by varying damping based on the frequency of vibrations the vehicle experiences. The FSD valve opens and closes mechanically to control oil flow and adjust damping to road conditions. This is done without the need for electronic or hydraulic control units.
Adaptation to driving conditions
This technology makes the KONI Special ACTIVE shock absorber ideal for extreme conditions, where the original shock absorber cannot adequately control the upgraded suspension system.
FSD shock absorbers come as standard in twin-tube design, also known as hydraulic shock absorbers. This type of shock absorber offers significant advantages for vehicles driving with (heavy) loads, as it perfectly balances comfort, stability and handling characteristics.
A twin-tube shock absorber consists of two tubes:
How does a twin-tube shock absorber work?
During damper operation, the piston rod moves in and out of the inner tube, causing oil to flow through valves between the tubes. This process provides controlled damping, which helps to effectively control the vehicle's suspension at all times.
Ideal for light commercial vehicles
Twin-tube shock absorbers provide smoother and more effective damping thanks to their larger oil capacity. This results in improved driving comfort, especially with heavy or variable loads. They are designed for extreme conditions. The clever design ensures that this damper is cost-effective for vehicles that continuously operate in demanding conditions.
Specific deployment areas place high demands on a vehicle's suspension system. In most cases, an upgrade to a suspension system from MAD is sufficient. Under extreme conditions, such as continuous heavy-laden driving, the original shock absorber may not sufficiently control the suspension. For those situations, we recommend combining one of our selected suspension systems with KONI Special ACTIVE shock absorbers for optimal performance. The MAD Special Duty Kit offers maximum stability, excellent handling and high ride comfort, even in intensive use.
MAD Special Duty kits are carefully composed and tested to perfectly match the technical requirements of vehicles and specific demands of users. A smart investment for top performance, which also offers a price advantage in both purchase and installation.
Want to take your vehicle's road holding, handling and comfort to the highest level? Then opt for the MAD Special Duty Kit and experience the difference.
