Auxiliary springs by MAD have been specially developed to provide additional support to the original suspension system under varying payloads or constant heavy payloads. The car therefore sags less quickly and less far. Thanks to the extra spring force of the coil springs, you maintain the ideal ride height and improve driveability and safety also in loaded situations. In this way, the driver experiences optimum comfort.

For many vehicles, we offer auxiliary springs in different support levels: basic support, medium support and maximum support. Medium and maximum support often require a minimum payload.

How do auxiliary springs operate?

Many passenger cars, motorhomes and vans are built for "normal" use. They are calculated for passenger transport and average payloads. However: in practice, we often make optimal use of the available space and do not take the extra payload into account. Whether it is luggage, a bike carrier or, for example, an LPG tank. Trailers or caravans also pose a problem. Auxiliary springs are the solution in these cases.

Auxiliary springs are additionally installed alongside or in the original suspension system of vehicles, such as passenger cars, vans or motorhomes. They ensure that the optimum ride height is maintained even when loaded. As a result, comfort is improved and driving characteristics remain optimal, which also contributes to safety.

Auxiliary springs are relatively cheap compared to other solutions for heavy payloads. Fitting the springs is done in a minute.


When does a vehicle require auxiliary springs?

Although manufacturers of passenger cars and commercial vehicles provide an excellent base, sometimes this is not enough. With specific uses of a vehicle, more is often required of a vehicle's chassis and this is when we provide the solution with our suspension systems. A vehicle may need auxiliary springs in situations where the vehicle's original suspension is unable to provide stability, comfort and optimal driveability of the vehicle when loaded or to maintain the desired ride height. Here are some situations where auxiliary springs by MAD can be useful:

  • Regular heavy payloads
    If you plan to load the car or van with heavy items, such as luggage, tools, camping gear or construction materials, auxiliary suspension can help compensate for the extra weight and thereby keep the vehicle stable.
  • Trailer and caravan
    When towing a trailer, caravan, or as a result of other heavy loads, the vehicle may sag backwards due to the extra weight. Auxiliary suspension prevents the rear of the vehicle from sagging. This keeps comfort, roadholding and driveability optimal even when loaded.
  • Loading solutions: roof box, towbar box, roof racks, bicycle carrier, tail lift, truck-mounted crane, EasyLoad or racking
  • When additional loading solutions are used, there will regularly be payloads that put extra strain on the original suspension system. Depending on the payload situation, auxiliary springs or reinforced main springs can offer a solution.
  • Ride height
    Auxiliary springs are used to maintain the desired height, even with additional payload.
  • Comfort
    For a smooth and comfortable ride, the suspension system can be adjusted to reduce shocks and vibrations transmitted from the road. For example, auxiliary (air) suspension is popular in passenger transport.
  • Safety and stability
    Adding auxiliary springs can improve the stability and driveability of the vehicle.
  • LPG tank
    A gas system in a car demands more from the suspension system due to the extra weight of the gas and tank.

Why is a certain type of suspension system not available?

Our suspension systems are developed and tested on a vehicle-by-vehicle basis. Has a vehicle entered the market fairly recently? Then the set may still be under development. In addition, a suspension system may not be technically possible on a vehicle. In that case, we offer alternative suspension systems.

Can I easily install auxiliary springs by MAD?

Our suspension systems can all be installed by a specialist. Our auxiliary suspension systems come complete and pre-assembled. This saves a lot of installation time.

Maximum protection

MAD auxiliary springs are made of high-quality chrome-silicon spring steel. All springs receive an anti-corrosion treatment and are then epoxied with the characteristic blue powder coating for beautiful and long-lasting corrosion-resistant protection.
